Queensland Reds and ex Wallaby great George Smith, gives the St Laurence’s School, in Brisbane, insight on the defensive breakdown mindset.
One of the best breakdown exponents in the game, George explains the key points to winning a defensive breakdown.
Decide your role early
Communicate your decision whether its a jackal, clean out, counter ruck, or reload
Repeat effort is key – maintain the effort at every breakdown. Enjoy!
Previously, Queensland Reds and ex Wallaby great George Smith, explained to the St Laurence’s School players, key points to winning a defensive breakdown.
This week, George is on the opposite side of the ball and looking at how best to STOP the Jackal at the Breakdown.
One of the best Jackals ever to play the game, George gets down into the breakdown and explains how stop his fellow Jackals.
It is a contest about:
speed into position less steps to get across the ball
height – Whoever wins the height battle wins the ‘steal’
arms underneath the shoulders – above gets a yellow or red – enjoy!
In this video, George puts both sides of the breakdown together to find the King of the Jackal. Enjoy!
