In this video Courtney Lawes takes you through a number of defensive systems and structures, outlining where each player has to go and what responsibilities they each have for their role. “The key with defence is to stay in your structure, follow the game plan and to maintain talking amongst the players.”

An excellent video demonstrating a simple but highly effective defensive system that can be applied by all age groups and levels.
do ABC stay fixed or is there an argument for filling inside C outside B so allow the wrap to get in position quicker
It showed important basic points. B goes to 9 and A should close the gap, which is sometimes confusing and difficult to stick to when players are tired. The video showed one mistake example which was good to see the actual situation. Small talks are important in the event of drifting outside when the number is down. Very good basic lesson.

Brilliant demo and explaination. Adopted this system with an U13 Bteam that was much smaller than all their opposition – this has evened things up and they have started winning games.

Very good/clear. Not so good if your 10/12 etc can run the moves effectively to test the defence.

Great Stuff, I coach a Junior side and our Senior Squad started using this last season with great success. I’ll be introducing it in my first Junior session tomorrow!

Coupling this video with the Graham Henry video provides both a macro & microscopic view of the defensive structure.
This was actually an eye opener for me as my defense lacked structure. On the last set were the boy’s shifted on the defense line I used a elastic rope tied to straps on the boy’s to help them shift as a unit. it worked like a bomb. Thanks guy’s
